Anyone who knows me well is familiar with my weakness for a palette that I like to call “Singapore Sling” colours. It’s the name of an old fashioned, girly cocktail that’s packed with gin and unabashedly pretty. I have to confess that I like the name of it, and the way it looks, much better than the way it tastes… but just in case you’re feeling brave:
1/2 oz grenadine syrup
1 oz gin
sweet and sour mix
1/2 oz cherry brandy
Pour grenadine into the bottom of a collins glass, and fill with ice. Add gin, and almost-fill with equal parts of sweet and sour and chilled soda. Top with cherry brandy, and serve unstirred, garnished with a cherry.
There’s just something about the combination of pink, apricot, buttery yellow and tangerine that just melts me.
Clockwise from clasp: “Small Flower Clasp”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Ladybug”, “Pink Desert”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Universal Unique”, “Rose”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Dendritic Agate”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Wine Harvest”, “Rose Quartz”, “Classic Core Unique”, “Rose Quartz, round”, “Flowers”, “Crown Chakra”, “Classic Core Unique”.
Whether you’re partial to gin cocktails or not, this sweet yet slightly spicy palette is a good way to enjoy some of the new classic core uniques with playful animal motifs this Summer…
Thank you to all of you who have already shared your “Dream Bracelet” designs with us on our Tartooful Facebook wall… we are truly humbled by the response, and by the high level of design that we have seen. Tartoofulers are so talented!
This is making it very hard to pick just a few designs… Fortunately we have lots more beads to give away this month! Today’s winning design idea was submitted by Jo Lee, who proposed a bracelet made up entirely of budded beads… an idea that we’ve been playing with at Tartooful lately and that we’d love to see.
Another design that recently caught our eye was suggested by Alexandra Mitchnik. It had an unusual combination of light and dark blue, with rich stones and complex silvers. The jewel toned blues are always total scene stealers – hard to blend on a bracelet with lots of other colours… but the addition of a couple of other strong, light blues, as well as a couple of touches of gold… somehow it works! Alexandra mentioned that she wasn’t able to try assembling her dream bracelet because she didn’t have a dealer nearby – so we thought we’d try to compose a bracelet that was close, just to see how it all pulled together. We had to make a couple of substitutions, but tried to stay true to the proposed palette… and we’re very impressed with the result. It’s an original set of bead combinations that we haven’t tried before. That “Beach” blue really adds an interesting twist, giving the palette a fresh pop of colour. What fun to find a new way to play with our showstopping but tricky cobalt blues!
…So keep sharing your ideas with us – we are thrilled every time we see a new “Like” or a fresh design posted!
In other news, we are busy busy busy at Tartooful, preparing for our epic event that is being held this Thursday, from noon til eight at the gallery… Irina of Trollbeads Canada will be joining us to demonstrate glass bead making from 4-8pm, so be sure to come by to meet Irina, and see this fascinating process! It’s always fun to exchange design ideas over a glass champagne with other Trollies. While you’re there you may as well take a peek at the extraordinary stock that we are bringing in for the evening. With the tempting Spring collection and price specials, there’s simply no better time to splurge…
Oh – and one other thing… we popped a few more yummy beads into our Tartoofultoo Online Shop today…
See you in the village on Thursday!
