Trollbeads Challenge Day 9

IMG_1794Today I hankered for a soft, simple composition that felt calm and meditative.  I decided to start with a whispery soft Purple Jade for the very middle of the bracelet, and framed it with a pair of Labradorites.  That felt so perfect that I decided to carry on with only natural stones in the softest tones that could find in my collection.  IMG_1800

I wanted the silvers to have a similarly calm mood, so I used “Shortcut”, “Spot”, “Heart” and “Smiling Cylinder”, whose clean lines and smooth surfaces felt just right.

Honey Honey

Like Honey for the Eyes…

IMG_0845We are just starting to really explore all the possibilities of the Autumn collection designs… and one of the most distinct new items is of course, the “Feldspar Moonstone”.  I have seen some absolutely wonderful designs online that play this warm pink moonstone off Labradorites, and pairing it with the new garnet tones makes for a marvelously rich palette.

IMG_0847However, the arrival of a little floral unique inspired this apricot and honey combination, and I am in love.  It’s a beautiful bead, with textured flowers in a warm lilac tone sprinkled across a clear, honey coloured glass base.  The light shines through the bead, and reflects out again off the silver core, making the whole thing seem to glow from within.  This unique led the way, and in no time I had played together a fresh combination of subtle lilac, warm apricot and clear golden ambers and glass.  So warm, so sweet and so natural, it’s just a pleasure to see.

I wanted the delicious colours of this bracelet to take center stage, so I intentionally kept the silvers calm and simple.  They reflect the light, and quietly shimmer along with the ambers.

A few regular collection glass play a critical role in providing a complementary, warm lilac note.  This “Purple Flower Mosaic” has two pink dichroic glass accents, as well as one golden one.  It’s a perfect choice for this bracelet.

Clockwise from clasp:  “Freya Lock”, “Rosa Pearl”, “Unique Amber”, “Purple Flower Mosaic”, “Starry Night”, “Luminous Facet”, “Power of Hope”, “Amber Violets”, “Trefoil Knot”, “Unique Amber”, “Feldspar Moonstone”, “Unique Amber”, “Soft Heart”, “Unique Glass”, “Power of Hope”, “Golden Quartz”, “Endless”, Unique”, “Unique Amber”, “Pink Prism”.

Trollbeads Inspiration: The K Bracelet

“All men have the stars.. but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman they were wealth. But all these stars are silent. You–you alone–will have the stars as no one else has them..”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

IMG_0341We’ve seen the extraordinary “Happy Universe” 18k gold and silver bead used in many different types of composition, but perhaps nowhere so effectively as here, on KT’s very first bracelet.  This stunning bracelet is a work of love, having been designed, redesigned, tweaked and adjusted over many months.

IMG_0337She has carefully chosen outstanding examples of lots of desirable beads, including this boldly included “Tourmalated Quartz”, shown at right.  The center three beads of this design – “Happy Universe”, “Tourmalated Quartz”, and “African Pride” –  are so dramatic and graphic, that they promise a strong composition.

IMG_0342Did I mention there’s a Rhinoceros?  Unquestionably, strong.

IMG_0332A monochrome bracelet of stark black and white might have been the easy and classic method of designing around the bold center beads… however,  KT made this design all her own by surrounding them instead with a a palette of glorious colour.

IMG_0333Subtle yet rich hues of ruby, olive, chestnut, copper and teal are sophisticated and vibrant.  It’s an unexpected blend of colours that somehow sings beautifully together.  Every bead has something wonderful about it… the Labradorite features a bright lilac flash – the only one that we have ever seen.  The Azure and Organic bubbles are deeply dimpled and show an astonishing range of colours.  The Blue Desert is a lovely bright aqua, and has lots of rose gold sparkle…

IMG_0335Perhaps in the end its the complexity of the Bubbles designs that allows them all to work together.  There are simply so many shades and tones within each of them, that they are forgiving of colours at the edge of the palette, and bring them all into the fold.  Notice how this Azure Bubbles plays with both the Lake Eye and the pop of ruby behind.

Of all KT’s lovely bracelets, this one speaks most strongly to me of *her*.  It is the bracelet’s rare beauty, and haunting palette, naturally – but more than that, it is so very individual.  From each single bead, to the very unexpected way that they are designed, this bracelet could only have been made by KT.

Trollbeads: Lavender Labradorite

We are always thrilled to unpack a new shipment of Trollbeads, as there are always wonderful surprises among the beads… This time just look at what we found!

It’s a Labradorite with a glorious, purple flash…

We’ve seen a rich variety of Labradorites over the years… lots of deep grey stones with bright blue flashes… light stones with emerald green flashes… a couple of juicy pink flashes, and one memorable gold flash.  My own labradorite has two different colours of flash: blue on one side and silver on the other.

However… we’ve never seen a purple before.

So beautiful, it sends shivers down my back.
