Trollbeads Inspiration: HO’s Azure Aurora

heather4

heather8This bracelet belongs to one of our beloved Trollies, and when we saw it recently, we found it so inspiring we asked if we could share it with the readers of the blog.  Here we find a masterful combination:  she has managed to combine two of our favorite beads  – Azure Bubbles and the faceted Aurora in a gorgeous, tone-on-tone composition.

heather6To achieve harmony in this design HO has incorporated a wide range of shades from palest rose to deep lilac.  This allows both the milky iridescence of the  Faceted Aurora and the richer purple tones in her Azure bubbles to find homes on this bracelet.  In addition, taking her cue from the greyed green found in the Azure Bubbles, HO has

heather9utilized a natural olive tone as her complementary colour.  You’ll find touches of it in many of the beads on the bracelet, from the detailing on the uniques, to the patterning on the mosaic beads and of course the gorgeous Labradorite.   This thread of greyed olive gives the design a lovely sense of continuity and rhythm.

heather7It also adds interest and subtlety to what could otherwise possibly have felt predictable.  A couple of hints of slate blue complete the palette… seen here in a glittering Blue Desert but also found in a couple of uniques.  This further incorporates the various shades found in the Azure bubbles, and sets this bracelet apart.

I find compositions with two main colours much easier to design than ones with three or more – so I know how tricky it is to create a multi colour bracelet such as this one, that is so beautifully balanced.

Trollbeads Inspiration: Sweet

IMG_4745

IMG_4744How sweet is this?!  I don’t know why it never occurred to me to put a silver in the middle of the new “In Your Heart”, but now that I’ve seen this, it’s opened up a whole new world of possibilities!  Imagine it with “Large Berry”, “The Chrysanthemum of November”, “Zucchini Flower”, “Cherry Blossom”, “Smiling Cylinder”…

Trollbeads Inspiration: Cathy’s Copper & Pomegranate Update

IMG_4562

IMG_4560One of my favorite combinations that I like to toss together is what I call my “Copper and Pomegranate” bracelet.  It’s evolved many times, changing as beads come and go, but the mood stays the same, and I never tire of wearing it.  It;s been written up lots of times in this blog, if you’re interested in seeing the older versions.

IMG_4563Last week Cristi gave me the gift of a unique bead that she had spotted… she knew as soon as it caught her eye that it was perfect for my collection, with warm golden yellow, my very favorite apricot shade of pink, and a delicious touch of lilac.

IMG_4561It inspired me (as she knew it would) to try adding my Lavender Jade to this combination, and isn’t it wonderful?  The new bead settles the lavender in nicely, and pulls the entire palette together in a most satisfying way.  I can’t wait to try using it for an exuberant easter coloured bracelet, with all soft pastel notes, as well!

Thank you again for the new addition to my collection, Cristi… I’ll treasure it.

Trollbeads Inspiration: Cristi’s Hellebore Bracelet

photo 1photos:  Margaret Church

IMG_4547Today I feature a bracelet that came out of Cristi’s and my Bead playdate last week… This bracelet is composed wholly of beads from her personal collection, but it’s an original combination that I have never seen her wear before.

IMG_4548

IMG_4546Ordinarily I’m more attracted to the warm side of pinks… those pinks that lean towards the yellow side of the colour wheel, that hint at apricot and peach.  However, this bracelet schools me in the allure of cool pinks with a hint of blue, that whisper lilac.  Maybe it’s the contrasting warmth of the ivory that keeps it from being cold…

IMG_4544… But I think it may be that it reminds me of an old fashioned flower, the Helleborus Orientalis, or lenten rose.  I grew up in a garden that had a huge bed full of them.  My garden obsessed Mother planted them en masse over the course of many years, until they began to cross pollinate, creating countless new colours and forms.  Each Spring it was completely out of control gorgeous.  Cristi has recently fallen in love with these subtle beauties, and has started her own collection in her garden.  Perhaps it’s their plum pink, creamy bone and barely green palette that inspired her in this composition.

Trollbeads Inspiration: A Blush of Gold

Rose & Gold is deeply feminine luxury…

Our second composition using Trollbeads’ golden Fantasy Necklace features a palette of delicate rose pink and rich gold.  It’s a honey sweet and decadent combination that feels like we are stepping into a Venetian fantasy…

Pink Venetian palazzos… tea roses… sunset prosecco… the gilded wing of a crumbling chapel ornament… the crisp rustle of metallic gold thread in raspberry silk… a honey scented mystery behind a gilded venetian mask… this is the fantasy.

A glimpse of gold between apricot tinted “Pink Prism” and the silver bubbles and gold ribbon of “Silver Trace, Gold”… it’s unexpected for those us us accustomed to seeing antiqued silver.  The golden light transforms the chemistry of the familiar colours.

The gold draws the element out of the bead designs – “Pink Desert”, “Golden Quartz”, “Golden Cave”, “Pink Prism” and “Pink Gold” all add their warm notes to the composition.

Here “Summer Dot” reflects the warm shimmer of its neighbours, and “Golden Cave” explodes in a fiery burst of molten rose gold.

Top to bottom:  “Pink Prism”, “Silver Trace, Gold”, “Large Berry”, “Pink Gold”, “Golden Cave”, “Summer Dot”, “Sun Circle”, “Golden Quartz”, “Pink Desert”, “Rose Quartz”.

Sigh…

and just like that, with the flutter of a gilded fan… exeunt.

Trollbeads Inspiration: Rose Gold

Of the group of spectacular gold bracelets we designed, this one must be my very favorite… The blush pink and the gold make such a harmonious combination… and there are so many beads in the Trollbeads collection that are simply perfect for this type of design.  Beads such as “Pink Desert”, “Pink Gold”, “Golden Cave” and “Rosa Pearl” are already among my favorite designs, and they sing when placed on a spectacular 18k gold chain.

18k gold “Hydrangea” is a delicate note on this design, quietly glowing from between “Pink Desert and “Golden Cave”.  Isn’t “Pink Desert” amazing when viewed from the side like this?  It’s an unexpected angle, but it’s always fun to see how the beads look from different directions – sometimes a new jewel is found for my Fantasy necklace!

An interesting note about “Golden Cave”… recently I have noticed a number of online retailers listing these lovelies for far more than recommended retail, saying that they are retired.  For the record, these beads were not among those listed as retired in January, they are still available through our Canadian Distributor, and I’ve heard nothing about them being retired.  Caveat emptor!

The Rosa Pearl is a bead that I have always liked, but that recently I have come to appreciate even more.  We have a few ladies working on soft pink designs, so we’ve had the pleasure of seeing more of these than usual over the past few months.  We’ve enjoyed seeing the variety of shapes and colours… wouldn’t it be fun to see an entire bracelet composed of different shades of pearls interspersed with silver?

Clockwise from clasp:  “Golden Heart Clasp”, “Pink Desert”, “18k gold Hydrangea”, “Golden Cave”, “Paradise Birds”, “Rose Quartz”, “Dewdrops”, “Rose Quartz, round”, “Silver Whorl”, “Golden Cave”, “Rosa Pearl”.
