Tartooful Art – “Sank-foo”

This week I had the pleasure and the privilege of creating an original artwork on commission.  It felt wonderful to be painting, and it was even more meaningful as this piece incorporates imagery and words that make it very personal to the family who will be receiving it.

“Sank-foo”  acrylic on canvas, 24″x62″ 2012.

  1. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art, Cathy! I am dying to know the story behind the piece… What “sank foo” means…. Is there a face in the background???

    1. No intentional faces… but many layers of paint, and probably a few accidental images. We already found a perfect set of family initials! “Sank-foo” was the adorable way the owner’s daughter said thankyou when she was younger. I think it makes a wonderful expression of gratitude to ground this piece, and of course is a reference to the child as well. Thank you for your kind words, Nadine – so supportive, as always!

  2. thank you is exactly what I had in mind when I read sank foo. How fitting to put this sweet child phrase into a picture.
